Cornish Winter

November is already here and we will soon be into the Cornish winter when everything quietens down, fires are lit, and people start looking forward to Christmas.

Today it’s sunny outside, but the wind is fresh. I had a nice walk with our dog this morning, through the woods and across the hilltop, with superb views of Loe Pool bright in the sunshine.

The Ship Inn, Porthleven is a nice pub at the best of times, but in the Cornish winter, when the fires are lit, it’s really cosy and welcoming, and a great place for refreshment after a long walk, or for an evening drink.

I actually like the Cornish winter and I feel very lucky living in Porthleven, in such a beautiful part of the UK. I think that having so much lovely countryside nearby makes one very aware of the changing seasons. To me, this is a time for reflection and also planning next year’s holiday.

For those of you not lucky enough to live in Cornwall, why not take your next holiday in Porthleven and stay in our self-catering apartment. The Gables is centrally located in the village of #Porthleven, has private off-road parking and is also #dog-friendly. The harbour and beach are only a short walk away and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from too. Our favourite restaurant is The Square, Porthleven, but as it is so popular, you usually have to book in advance for evening meals.

At this time of year, we get great sunsets too and dogs are now allowed on all the beaches from 1st October until Easter Sunday. A real bonus!
